Former Hinsdale Depot. Digital photograph by Kenyon F. Karl on May 19, 1998.

An official brown sign at the entrance to the railbed across Depot Street from the Hinsdale Depot suggests that the Asheulot Rail-trail is open for public usage east of this point only.

A recent reconstruction of Depot Street has broken the railroad bed at the west curb line of Depot Street. The former Hinsdale Depot is currently being used as a private home. However, the owner of the Depot reported during a spot-check on May 19, 1998 that he signs a trail easement agreement on an annual basis so that trail users can use his private driveway as a detour.

The railroad overpass at Tower Hill Road is missing. A bypass trail with official orange signs was noted during a spot-check conducted on July 6, 1998 , but it was totally choked with weeds and brush, leading to the assumption that portions of the trail between Hinsdale Depot and Dole Junction are totally unusable!

The Todd Block contains the Hinsdale Post Office. Digital photograph by Kenyon F. Karl on July 6, 1998.

Trail users must note that Depot Street, Main Street, and River Street forms a reasonable hiking and biking route to the usable portion of the Fort Hill Branch Rail-trail at the Fort Hill Station, although bikers must contend with the hazards of parked cars and moderate traffic on the Main Street portion of this route.

Very limited parking is available in front of the trail entrance across Depot Street from the Hinsdale Depot.

Post Office The Hinsdale Post Office is located in the Todd Block on Main St., just west of Depot St.

Library The Hinsdale Public Library is in the large red brick Town Hall at the corner of Main & Depot Streets, next to the Post Office.

Groceries A small convenience store is located across the street from the Post Office.

Hiking Trail Bicycle Trail Horse Trail Cross-Country Skiing Snowmobiling The Hinsdale Trail entrance to Pisgah State Park is about a mile north of the Hinsdale Depot via Depot St. and Route 63 North. Bike trail information is available at The GORP mountain bike guide to Pisgah State Park.
