A booklet on the history of Randolph suggests that this rural train stop was created primarily for the hikers and cross-country skiers that once used the train to reach the several hiking trails that still begin at this point.

The Randolph Mountain Club Web Site has pictures of the valley and the surrounding mountains in its photo gallery.  Note that many of the hiking trails that begin in the Randolph Valley are maintained by the Randolph Mountain Club. The club also maintains cabins and shelters high in the mountains immediately south of the Rail-trail. Additional hiking trails leave from Durand Road (parallels the Rail-trail, a short distance north of Route 2), to climb Randolph Hill.

Hiking trail Viewing Area Parking The moderately sized Appalachia Parking Lot between the highway and the rail-trail provides parking for the several hiking trails that start from both ends of the Appalachia Parking Lot. Complete information about these hiking trails is provided in the AMC White Mountain Guide published by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The Fallsway and Brookbank Trails form a 1.5 mile nature trail that starts at the east end of the Appalachia Parking Lot and crosses the Rail-trail immediately thereafter. Information about this nature trail is provided in the book Nature Walks in the White Mountains by Robert N. Buchsbaum, published as a Nature Walks Book by the Appalachian Mountain Club

No other trail facilities are available at this location.
