The trail begins on the east side the Newport Recreation Department building on Belknap Avenue. It runs northwest across the yard of a fuel dealer before it passes a yellow trail gate.

Former Newport Depot. Digital picture by Kenyon F. Karl on June 11, 1998.

The former railroad station is about a quarter-mile southeast of the trailhead. Unfortunately, the old railroad bed between these two points is blocked by a fence and private land ownership.

Toilets and water are available within the building whenever it is open (9am to 5pm daily).

Bus Stop The Community Transportation Services bus stops at Main St. and Belknap Avenue a 1/10 of a mile east of the trailhead. The Claremont-Newport route offers both in-town service as well as 5 round-trips to Claremont along Route 11 & 103 on weekdays only. Bicycles are not accommodated on this bus.
