This potential rail-trail would begin at the railroad junction of the Lawrence & Manchester Branch on Manchester's south side, then run northeast to the East Manchester Station at Cypress Street. A rather lengthy industrial spur line adjacent to Valley Street should be included in the Rail-trail, if the land is not needed for the reconstruction of that street.

The abandoned railroad bed has already been broken by a very recent expansion of the Elliot Hospital parking area just beyond the East Manchester Station. However the hospital might be willing to accepting a trail route through the hospital parking area. The trail would then continue east from the edge of the Elliot Hospital Parking area to the trail culvert under I-93.

This project would then continue over a narrow informal trail that runs east from the trail culvert at I-93 to the end of the State-owned Portsmouth Branch Rail-Trail at Lake Shore Road. This urban extension of the existing Rail-trail would thus allow the residents of South and East Manchester to reach Lake Massabesic, and indeed continue east to Rockingham Junction between Newmarket and Newfields.
