Abandoned railroad building next to the site of the Franklin Depot. Digital photograph by Kenyon F. Karl on December 18, 1999.
Note that mobile homes currently occupy the site of the Franklin Depot.
Trail access is available at the following points:
Just south of the Franklin Depot to the street that runs along the west side of the trail. This access point may be restricted to able-bodied trail users.
Near the intersection of Route 127 and Old Route 3 (runs along west side of trail between the highway overpass and the highway underpass). Due to the presence of a drainage ditch, this access point may be restricted to able-bodied trail users.
The Franklin Public Library. Digital photograph by Kenyon F. Karl on December 18, 1999.
A gasoline station is located at the intersection of Depot Street and Main St.
A restaurant is located a short distance north of the Route 3 river bridge, and is thus accessible by leaving the trail at the access ramp just south of the station site. This restaurant is open from 6am to 7 pm daily, although it may be necessary to descend a set of stairs to enter from the back of the building. Toilets and water are presumably available at the restaurant upon request. The West Franklin Branch Post Office is adjacent to the restaurant.
Greater Laconia Transit Agency stops at the Library at the west edge of the downtown area, about a mile north and east across the river from the site of Franklin Depot. This bus provides limited city bus service to Laconia on weekdays only and will stop at the Concord Trailways Agency at 'Tilton Jct.' by advance arrangement. Note that this bus does not accommodate bikes and skis. The Franklin Police Department is located across from the Library.
Concord Trailways stops just east of I-93 Exit 20 ('Tilton Jct.'), which is about 5 miles east via Route 3 of Franklin Station. Note that this section of Route 3 is not 'bike friendly'. Unboxed bikes are accommodated in under-bus baggage compartments under specified conditions.
The Daniel Webster Birthplace State Historic Site is about two miles west of the trail exit near Route 127. Although this State highway is narrow with limited sight distances, it appears to be lightly traveled. Note that the memorial appears to be open only on a seasonal basis.
